Members discuss the new ore mine. Photo: Aaron GoldIf you’re as passionate about model railroading as we are, we encourage you to apply for membership.

PMRRM  offers two types of membership:

Supporting Members help run trains during our monthly open days (following training and qualification). Supporting Membership is a  great way for people who are interested in model railroading to operate trains on one of the world’s largest layouts, but don’t have the time to commit to regular membership. Dues: $150/year.

Regular members keep PMRRM running, operating at our open days, building and maintaining the layout. Regular members can serve on crews, committees, the Board of Directors, and hold office, and have unlimited access to the Museum. Requires a 40-hour apprenticeship and an approval vote by other Regular Members. Dues: $35/month, with discounts for full-time students. Junior membership for under-18s is also available with lower dues and some restrictions.

Do I need to be an experienced model railroader to join PMRRM?

Not at all! We welcome novices, master modelers, and everyone in between. If you’re a newbie, joining PMRRM is a great (and cost-efficient) way to dive into the hobby and learn vital skills, as well as to get hands-on without the time and expense of building a home layout. (Besides, who has an attic big enough for a 70′ x 72′ railroad?) And if you’re an experienced model railroader, we’re eager to have your expertise.

Remember, too, that you will most likely bring other skills and experience that can benefit the museum. Our members include woodworkers, accountants, hobby shop staffers, attorneys, architects, electricians, writers, stagecraft professors, and real-life railroaders, all of whom use their life skills to benefit the museum.

Sounds great. How do I sign up?

If you’d like to become a member, please visit the Museum during one of our open days or during a Saturday work session (1:00-5:00 pm). For more information, please email us at info@pmrrm.org.
